One Human Family, adopted as the official motto of Key West in October 2000, is much more than just a phrase -- it sums up the inherent openness and acceptance found in the internationally renowned gay and lesbian resort destination.
Presented by the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Key West, PrideFest honors gay and lesbian achievements in equality, promotes tolerance and understanding, and provides a fun-filled whirl of revelry for visitors and residents of all sexual orientations.
Pridefest Key West was born of a dream to create a sense of community, understanding and tolerance for everyone, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered and heterosexual.
These were the primary goals for Pridefest, said Grant Hoover, student director of the LGBTA and a junior majoring in business administration.
Pridefest continued into the evening with a talk, titled "U-Rap: Crystal Meth & Promiscuity," which featured student speaker George Bauer, a junior majoring in international relations.
The rest of Pridefest week features film screenings and social gatherings open to all members of the USC community.
