Encyclopedia > Prince Carl, Duke of Ostrogothia

For other Swedish Princes with the name Carl, please refer to the list at Prince Carl of Sweden

Prince Carl of Sweden, Carl Gustaf Oscar Fredrik Christian (January 1, 1911 - 2003), Duke of Ostrogothia, was the youngest child of Prince Carl of Sweden and Norway, Duke of Westrogothia. To distinguish him from his father, he was widely known as Carl Jr.

When he married Countess Elsa von Rosen on July 6, 1937, he had to relinquish his succession rights and his royal titles, but was in stead granted the title Prince Bernadotte by his brother-in-law King Leopold III of the Belgians.

Carl divorced Elsa in 1951 and married twice more, first Anna Margareta Larsson and then Kristine Rivelsrud.
