The Princes of Abkhazia governed the Abkhazian principality during the Middle Ages until mid-19th century. During this period, Abkhazia was included in various larger states like Georgia , Samegrelo and the Ottoman Empire .
In the 15th century, feudal Georgia was split into four smaller regions. Abkhazia was then a principality, led by Princes of the Shirvashidze dynasty.
