Princess Astrid, Mrs. Ferner, of Norway was born as HRH Princess Astrid Maud Ingeborg of Norway in Villa Solbakken in Oslo on the February 12, 1932. She is the second daughter of HM King Olav 5th of Norway (1903-1991) and HRH Crown Princess Martha of Sweden (1901-1954).
From her mother's death in April 1954 until her brother's marriage in August 1968, Princess Astrid was the First Lady of Norway, working side-by-side with her father.
Princess Astrid married the divorced Johan Martin Ferner (b. July 22, 1927) in the church of Asker outside Oslo on January 12, 1961. They have five children together:
Queen Ingrids eldest daughter, HRH Princess Margrethe of Denmark, borrowed her mothers Baden Palmette Tiara to wear at the wedding ceremony and subsequent banquet and ball.
HRH Princess Margaretha of Denmark, born Princess of Sweden, wore, both for the wedding and the Government banquet, a diamond tiara from her personal collection, which had belonged to Princess Marie of Orléans, wife of HH Prince Valdemar and Princess Margaretha's mother-in-law.
Princess Ragnhild, the other daughter of King Olav and the late Crown Princess Märtha, wore at the wedding Princess Ingeborgs Circle Tiara, originally owned by her granddaughter, Princess Ingeborg of Sweden, mother of Crown Princess Märtha.
