The Printemps de Bourges is a music festival, started in 1977 by Jean Christophe Dechico (director of the Maison de la Culture at the time), Alain Meilland (actor and singer) and Daniel Colling (music booking agent). Despite a recurrent lack of profitability, the city of Bourges continues to host the music festival to this day (as of December 2004), even though a recurrent financial deficit spelled its doom many times. The music festival
Only a few well known musicians and comedians come the festival. The most interesting characteristic of the PdB are the new talents : many famous bands made their first major concerts in Bourges. The appeal of the event is focused on inexpensive tickets and up-and-coming performances. The artists are classified by genre on the program. Free events : Apart from the numerous food & clothes stalls, there are 3 or 4 open air stages where bands perform for free. Potential performers are permitted to perform on one of the stages with a request only a few days (or hours, depending on availability) in advance. The music played on these stages is often quite varied, and sometimes eclectic. Local bars host bands during the event as well, even though most bars in Bourges are quite modest in size. L'équipe de Réseau Printemps avec ses 26 Antennes régionales, et renforcée par celle de la Fnac depuis l'an 2 000, s'emploie donc à défricher toute l'année une scène musicale en devenir, offrant en point d'orgue une prestation au sein même du festival.
Ce rendez-vous, très couru des médias, des programmateurs et du public, curieux et à la recherche de nouveaux talents eux aussi, est devenu l'un des points forts du PrintempsdeBourges.

Bourges is slightly off the beaten trail of Loire Valley attractions, but the town has played an important part in French history and is worth a mention for its cathedral, medieval quarter, and Jacques Coeur who was Charles VII's financial advisor.
The Palais de Jacques Coeur (€5.50) on rue Jacques Coeur is a surprisingly modern house, incorporating an early steam room, and prempts French Renaissance trends in architecture.
Another attraction at Bourges is the hectic schedule of festivals, such as the week long Les PrintempsdeBourges during the Easter holidays (a variety of contemporary music) and the July through to September timetable of concerts for the Un Été à Bourges series (all kinds of music).
