Pro Wrestling NOAH is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion, founded in 2000. It was formed by former All Japan Pro Wrestling stars led by former champion Mitsuharu Misawa. The "NOAH" in the name alludes to the Biblical story of Noah, in which the people and animals in the ark survive the flood and make a new beginning in the world, a story which was seen as a parallel to the wrestlers' departure from All Japan. NOAH's promotional symbol, an ark with a dove holding an olive branch, refers to this. Image File history File links Pwnoah. ... This article is about the year 2000. ... All Japan Pro Wrestling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (713 words)
All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) (全日本プロレス, zen nihon puroresu) is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion established in 1972.
In the beginning the PWF recognized a world heavyweight championship and several "regional championships" given as billing to foreign stars depending from which region they came from, but after All Japan joined the NWA, the PWF world title was downgraded to a regional championship.
Mitsuharu Misawa had been serving as company President and chief booker, but the two frequently clashed over how the promotion should be run, and in May 2000 Misawa and almost all the roster of Japanese wrestlers quit the company to start Pro Wrestling NOAH with Baba's original business partners the Momota brothers.
