Pudong International Airport (Chinese: 浦东国际机场 pinyin: Pǔdōng Guj Jīchng) is an airport located in the eastern part of Pudong district of Shanghai, People's Republic of China. Its IATA Airport Code is PVG and its ICAO Airport Code is ZSPD.


Hongqiao Airport was at first Shanghai's primary international airport, but all of its international flights (including flights to Hong Kong and Macau) went to Pudong after it was completed.


Transrapid (a German maglev company, which has a test track in Emsland, Germany), constructed the first operational maglev railway in the world, from Shanghai, to the Pudong International Airport. It was inaugurated in 2002. It has a peak speed of 430 km/h and a track length of 30 km.

The airport opened on October 1, 1999, replacing Shanghai Hongqiao Airport as Shanghai's international airport and taking over all of its international flights (including flights to Hong Kong and Macau).
The airport was largely funded by a 40 billion yen grant from Japan.
