Their first season would be the 2004 A-League season, in which they finished with a disappointing record of 5 wins, 17 losses, and 6 ties. Historically, the team has relied largely on Argentinean, Brazilian and other Latin American nationals, although many native Puerto Ricans were in the roster in the club's first year. The team had three major Puerto Rican players in the 2005 season, namely defender Marco Vélez, and defender/midfielders Alexis Rivera and Rafael Ortiz, both of whom started 27 of 30 games. These three were supplemented by a significant foreign contingent, including Salvadoran Raúl Díaz Arce, Brazilian Mauricio Salles de Alencar, Honduran Ricardo Alcerro, and American Christopher Gores. In 1995, a team called the ISLANDERS joined the USISL, now the United Soccer Leagues (USL), was founded by Mr. Joe Serralta and other Puerto Rican business men. The team played only four games in Puerto Rico and then folded, after an abrupt ending of that first season, Mr. Serralta decided to move the franchise to Houston, Texas, and the team’s name changed to the "Houston Hurricanes". Colors

The Islanders current colors are orange, navy blue and white. Currently the kits, while retaining the 2006 color scheme, have changed slightly in style. The home kits are now full orange jerseys with white pinstripes, orange shorts and white socks. The away kits have navy blue jerseys with three orange stripes, two curving towards the right sleeve and one curving towards the left, navy blue shorts and navy blue socks. The Goalkeeper wears a light blue jersey with a white stripe on the left side and black shorts at home, and a yellow jersey with a white line on the left side and black shorts in away games.

In 2006, the home kit consisted of navy blue shirts with two orange vertical stripes and navy blue shorts, while the away kit consisted of orange shirts with two white vertical stripes and orange shorts. Originally, the team wore plain light blue shirt at home and plain white shirts away; in the 2005 season the kits were reversed, before changing to the current colors in 2006. The goalkeepers wear grey at home and navy blue at away games.

Club Rivalries

Carolina Railhawks Even though the Carolina RailHawks and Puerto Rico Islanders have yet to play a match against each other, a fledgling rivalry is brewing among the two clubs. Although Islanders supporters were not wild about Carolina's choice to mimic their blue and orange kit colors, the rivalry began in earnest when Islanders President Andrés Guillemard-Noble accused the RailHawks of piracy[2] in the signing of Islanders' free agent Caleb Norkus. While the club executive insists that the Islanders had a verbal agreement with Norkus to return to Puerto Rico for the 2007 season, the player refutes that accusation[3], saying the two sides never reached terms and cites the lack of an offered written contract as evidence of their lack of agreement.
