The Kuala Lumpur Putra Light Rail Transit system is a metro system in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Locally, it is known as Putra LRT or simply Putra (Putra stands for 'Projek Usahasama Transit Ringan Automatik').
The single line from Kelana Jaya to Terminal Putra Gombak, was fully completed in 1999. The system, which is 29 km long, is the third longest fully-automated driverless metro system in the world, after Lille, France, and the Vancouver SkyTrain. The system uses Advanced light rapid transit technology from Bombardier, using linear motor. Currently Putra LRT and Star LRT are operated by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad.
The stations starting from north to south are given to the left. Station with island platform allows easy interchange between going north-bound and south-bound without walking down/up to concourse level. The Sri Rampai station is still closed, since the project it is supposed to serve has been halted.
Platform gap
Putra LRT stations are designed to have platform gaps smaller than about 5cm to allow easy access for disabled and wheel chair users. They are able to achieve this due to the following reasons:
Putra tracks are non-ballasted, hence less rail and train movements.
Putra trains have direct rubber suspension, hence less train body movements.
Putra trains does not go too fast pass the platforms.
With the Putra World Trade Centre and The Mall shopping centre all within close proximity, the four stars Dynasty Hotel offers 788 spacious, well appointed rooms and suites complimented by a full array of services and facilities sure to please both the business and leisure traveler.
For budget conscious business travelers needing to be nearby the Putra World Trade Centre or the leisure traveler looking to stretch their travel dollar the Hotel Grand Central Kuala Lumpur offers very simple budget accommodation.
In addition to being adjacent to the Putra World Trade Centre and The Mall shopping centre the Legend Hotel is only steps from the KTM and STAR Light Rail Transit station connecting visitors to Bukit Bintang and KLCC quickly and inexpensively.
The system was developed by Projek Usahasama Transit Ringan Automatik (PUTRA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Renong, a 100% Malaysian-owned company.
Construction of the first 29km stretch of the LRT was divided into two parts: Section 1, from Subang Depot to Pasar Seni Station, commenced operation in September 1998 and Section 2, from Pasar Seni Station to Terminal PUTRA, started up in June 1999.
Seven years after the final section opened, an extension was commissioned in August 2006 as part of a massive scheme to expand Kuala Lumpur's transport network.
