Pyrgos City (Greek: Πύργος) is the capital of the Prefecture of Ilia in Greece and its located in the western part of the Pelopennese. Distance to its cities are 96 km (100 km before the opening of the new GR-9) from Patras, 320 km from Athens, 144 km west of Tripoli and 12 km east of th etown of Katakolo. Pyrgos population is about 25,000 people and its near Olympia the place which the first Olympics tok place. The city is named for a local tower. Pyrgos has one of the biggest squares in Greece with loads of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, hospital, hotels, and a large orthodox church. Traffic lights are now installed downtown. It is bypassed by GR-9/E-55 or GR-74 (eastbound) to its east. The city sits in the middle of a plain in Triphyllis. It is situated about 4 km north of the Alpheus River. Its nearest communities are Agios Georgios to the north and Lampeti (Lambeti) to the east.


Its television stations are Cosmos and ORT (Olympiaki Radiophonio Teleorassi, lit. Olympic Broadcasting Television). Its daily for the city is Patris.
