Gameplay
QPong is loosely inspired by PONG, hence the "pong" in "QPong," however bearing little to no resemblance to PONG in terms of aesthetics and gameplay. PONG, an adaptation of table tennis to the video screen, was the first commercially successful video game and is widely regarded as ushering in the video game era. ...
Between two and four teams face off in a giant arena, reminiscient of a Pinball table. Each team has a goal. For each team playing, a gigantic (bigger than your player) steel ball is dropped into the middle. Each team tries to roll the ball into the other team's goal. However, the ball is extremely massive. You can only move it using your weapons (super shotgun or railgun would have the largest effect). You can also push the ball, but it will only roll slowly. Should you happen to lie in the path of a quickly-moving ball, balls will crush other players who are not quick enough to get out of the way. In fact, one of the main ways to kill people in QPong is by blasting a ball into them (resulting in instant gibbage). Each time you roll a ball into your opponent's goal, you score on them. Each team starts with a certain number of points (5 is the default). Each time you score on a team, you lower their score by 1. Once a team reaches zero, they are eliminated, and are forced to become observers, or they can hop onto another team and play. To make things interesting, some levels include Pinball flippers around the goals to deflect the ball. Balls use realistic physics -- for instance, balls roll according to the laws of friction and motion; send two balls into each other and momentum is transfered; and balls roll down hills at an increasing rate.
