Encyclopedia > QSIG

QSIG is an ISDN based signalling protocol for signalling between nodes of a Private Integrated Services Network (PISN). The QSIG protocol carries user and feature information between private branch exchanges. It allows common features such as Camp On and Call Back to be offered across all nodes in the network, Thus for a large or very distributed company that requires multiple nodes, users can receive the same services across the network and be unaware of the switch that their telephone is connected to. This greatly eases the problems of management of large networks. An ISDN Telephone Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a type of circuit switched telephone network system, designed to allow digital (as opposed to analog) transmission of voice and data over ordinary telephone copper wires, resulting in better quality and higher speeds, than available with analog systems. ... List of signalling protocols: QSIG, H.225. ... Basic Service is sufficient to set up a simple call rapidly between two users in a private network but it is the implementation of Supplementary Services that makes modern digital networks really attractive. ... CTE Report #27: QSIG: Signaling Protocol for Private Networks (1166 words)
QSIG is an internationally standardized protocol especially designed for use in private networks and supported by most private network components manufacturers.
QSIG is based on the ITU T standards of the Q.93x series for basic call and generic functions, and the standards of the Q.95x series for supplementary services.
QSIG offers manufacturers of PTNXs the ability to implement their own protocol procedures to provide non-standardized supplementary services without having to go through the often protracted process of standardization, or jeopardizing compatibility with other network components.
QSIG at AllExperts (333 words)
QSIG is an ISDN based signaling protocol for signalling between private branch exchanges (PBXs) in a Private Integrated Services Network (PISN).
QSIG was originally developed by ETSI and is defined by a set of ISO standard documents, so is not owned by any one company.
QSIG GF provides supplementary services for large-scale corporate, educational, and government networks, such as line identification, call intrusion and call forwarding.
