For much of its history, Quark had a history of doing relatively infrequent new versions, and pricing them at a high level. This, combined with public perception of CEO Ebrahimi's attitude towards their customers, has resulted in a strong negative feeling among many of Quark's customers, which seems to be enhancing competitor Adobe Systems' ability to woo people to try their competing software, Adobe InDesign. However, in 2004 Meryl Lynch estimates the market share of QuarkXPress is still eight times higher than Adobe InDesign. On June 9, 2005, Quark CEO Kamar Aulakh resigned. Company spokesman Glen Turpin would not say why Aulakh left.
"I don't think it would be appropriate to talk about the reason," Turpin said. "It's really a private matter between Kamar and the company." In September 2005, Quark announced a new logo, designed by SicolaMartin, a division of Y&R Brands. The logo's purpose was to redirect Quark's image into a more friendly and inviting company. Soon after they released the new logo, it found backlash from bloggers on the Internet, who noticed the striking resemblance to the Scottish Arts Council logo.
