History
Queens highest ever finish in Scottish football was when they finished 4th in the old 1st division in 1934. The club's most successful era came when John Connolly was appoinyed manager in July 2000. He led the club to the Second divsion title in 2002 after a 3-1 win away to Forfar Athletic. This was just 2 years after a points deduction for Hamilton saved the club from relegation to the 3rd division. The following season the club won the Bells Challenge Cup ( a competition open only to clubs outwith the Premeir Division) after defeating St. Mirren 5-3 in the semi-final and Brechin City 2-0 in the final at Clyde's Broadwood Stadium. This was the second time the club had reached the final having previously lost 1-0 to Falkirk in 1997. John Connoly left the club in May 2004 to join St Johnstone. In his five years at the club he had turned them from relegation threatened 2nd divison side to a respected consolidated 1st division club after a 5th place spot in 2004. In that year Queens became the first part-time club to remain in the new first division for more than 2 years. Ian Scott had taken over and since led them to a 4th place finsih in 2005- their highest post-war finish John Connolly is the name of: John Connolly (prospector), (1860-1928), Australian prospector John Connolly (bishop), (1750-1825), second bishop of New York John Connolly, a former FBI agent who turned Whitey Bulger informant, in federal prison for racketeering and obstruction of justice stemming from his relationship with the Winter...
