Established in 1988, Queens Surface Corporation is the successor to Linden Bus Co. Inc., a company established to takeover the bus services formerly operated by Queens/Steinway Transit Corp. The bus services operated by the company go back to a long line of companies extending back to the horsecar service in the village of Astoria in the 1860s. Queens/Steinway Transit Corp. was owned by the Salzberg family, dealers in scrap metal and a short line railroad operator, since it acquired the old New York & Queens County Railway Company. The Queens Surface Corporation facility was located at 128-15 28th Avenue near the New York Times printing plant in the College Point neighborhood of Queens, New York. The routes operated by Queens Surface Corp. were taken over by the City of New York and turned over to the MTA Bus Company for operation on January 3, 2005; the depot has been renamed the College Point Bus Depot. As of March, 2006, all of buses formerly leased by Queens Surface Corp. have been restickered and renumbered, all repainted with MTA Bus Company livery.
