Encyclopedia > Queens of Noize

Queens of Noize are an indie/disco DJ duo based in London, England. The constituent members are Mairead Nash and Tabitha Denholm. Their career began in 2002 at Club 333 in Shoreditch, and since then their club night has moved to the Camden Barfly and they have performed at many different festivals and clubs internationally, including the Carling Weekend, Roskilde Festival and Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, and have presented their own show on MTV2. They have also released their own single, "Indie Boys (Don't Deserve It)", to little critical or commercial success. They are well-known in the British music press for their strong links with the up-and-coming stars of the London indie scene, both business and romantic; between them they have been linked with Johnny Borrell, Pete Doherty, Jason Stollsteimer and Ted 'Roland Shanks' Pearce, and Zezi Ifore among others. They inspired the name of Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles after nicknaming him "Babyshambles" and his fellow Libertine Carl Barat "Papashingles".
