QYO consists of three symphony orchestras, two concert bands, a junior string orchestra, a chamber orchestra and a big band and offers an annual program of rehearsals, concerts, tutorials, camps and tours. The ages of the performers in QYO range from 9 to 25.


The leading QYO orchestra, the Queensland Youth Symphony (QYS, conducted by John Curro AM MBE), tours internationally every four years and regularly performs with world-class soloists.


Conductors

John Curro AM MBE: Conductor of QYS (Queensland Youth Symphony previously known as QYO1) since 1966 and founder of QYO. He also established the National Youth Concerto Competition (NYCC).


Sergei Korschmin: Conductor of QYO2 (Second Queensland Youth Orchestra) since 2003. Sergei Korschmin official website

Peter Morris: Conductor of the Wind Symphony since 2007.

Queensland Youth Orchestras is celebrating a 10-year sponsorship relationship with Bundaberg Sugar, a relationship all the more laudable for having weathered some tight economic times in the sugar industry.
Having originated in a period when the daughter of a past Bundaberg Sugar general manager was playing in one of the orchestras, the $35,000 sponsorship enables the orchestras to perform in the impressive, though expensive, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, as well as financing an annual tour north.
QYO general manager Geoff Rosbrook says members of the Queensland Youth Symphony orchestra are invariably excited at the prospect of performing in the arts centre because of its prestige and wonderful acoustics.

The Queensland Youth Choir was founded by Robert Clark in 1984 as a training program to provide an opportunity for young singers, aged 15 to 25 years, to develop as choral performers across a wide spectrum of musical styles.
In 1987 the Queensland Children's Choir was formed under the umbrella of the Queensland Youth Choir with founding director Rhonda Coady, who continues to lead the choir today.
Queensland Youth Choir relies on the help of volunteers, who are an integral part of the successful management and operations of the organisation.
