Shock Trauma Center is part of the University of Maryland Medical Center and University of Maryland Health System. It is a Level 1 trauma center in Baltimore, MD. on 22 South Greene Street. The trauma center is named after R Adams Cowley for his devotion to trauma medicine and surgery. The center was opened in 1989 and today serves a yearly average of 7,000 patients. The Physician-in-Chief of Shock Trauma Center is Thomas Scalea, MD.
