The R5 operates in semi-automatic, safety and fully automatic firing modes and fires 5.56x45 mm rounds. It is manufactured by Vektor, a division of Denel Ltd.
As part of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), personnel of the SACMP (and also the Military Police Agency) are usually issued with the R4 Assault rifle.
Other rifles the SANDF uses include the R5 and R6, which are shorter versions of the R4rifle.
This version is similar to the shortest version of the Galil, called the MAR (for micro assault rifle).
R5 challenges them to walk a mile in someone else's shoes and form a new perspective based on compassion, understanding, and acceptance.
R5 team members encourage students to push past these negative influences and imagine life outside the box that life's circumstances have put them in.
R5 helps the student recognize and take responsibility for the effects of that influence, equipping and motivating them to positively influence their social circles, families and communities.
