Rabri Devi (born 1959) is the 30th chief minister of Bihar (Term: March 11, 2000 - 2005 (5 years)). She is from the Rashtriya Janata Dal. This is her 3rd term as Chief Minister of Bihar. She became the first woman chief minister of Bihar on July 25, 1997. As chief minister of Bihar, her first term lasted less than 2 years and ended on February 12, 1999 and the second term lasted less than 1 year from March 9, 1999 to March 3, 2000. The 2005 state elections ended in Bihar ended in a hung assembly. After weeks of political maneovuring the ruling UPA government advised the President to dissolve the House and call for fresh elections. Rabri Devi was born in 1959 in the family of Sri Sib Prasad Chaudhary of Salarkalan, Line Bazar, Gopalganj.
Rabri Devi's installation as the Chief Minister of Bihar was considered as one of the most unexpected and awkward decisions of the entire Indian Political history because she was a traditional housewife and had neither interest nor any earlier experience in politics prior to governorship of the state of Bihar.

The firmness with which Rabri Devi acted has surprised many who had maintained all this while that she was a mere puppet in the hands of her incarcerated husband Laloo Prasad Yadav.
Rabri Devi has distanced herself from them, especially Sadhu and Subhash, on Laloo's advice, reportedly because he was worried by the ambitions of Sadhu, who had obtained the signatures of about 50 RJD legislators in a bid to succeed him.
