"Yesterday's Enterprise"

According to dialog in "Yesterday's Enterprise",[3] Garrett ordered the Enterprise to respond to a distress call from the Klingon outpost at Narendra III, but the ship was hopelessly outgunned by four Romulan warbirds. During the fighting, the ship entered a temporal rift. In the episode, the ship emerges 22 years later in an alternate timeline created by the ship's disappearance. In this timeline, the United Federation of Planets is on the verge of losing a war with the Klingon Empire. Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the "battleship" Enterprise-D convinces Garrett that her ship's sacrifice defending the outpost may strengthen relations with the Klingons and prevent the war; Garrett agrees to lead her ship and crew back in time and to certain death. Garrett is killed during a Klingon attack before the Enterprise-C's departure. The helmsman, Lieutenant Junior Grade Richard Castillo, assumes command and leads the Enterprise-C back to Narendra III, preventing the war by restoring the timeline.
