Raheen City International Airport

Raheen is also a city in Co. Wexford. Its international airport, dedicated to Mark Curtis, was recently opened by Statia Murphy of Raheen Shop fame. Daily flights now occur between New Ross and Barcelona. On opening the airport Statia quoted "The new Mark Curtis Raheen City International Airport is a fantastic new addition to the infrastructure of Raheen City. We welcome all travellers from New Ross and our twin city Barcelona". Mark Curtis had the following to say after he heard that the new international airport was to be named after him “Ah yeah its great really……..what’s an airport?”. The function was attended by a large number of people. What made the formalities so special was the attendance of the large Spanish community of Raheen. Its spokesperson, Noel Murphy, showed great emotion “For me, being from a Spain, it good because people of Raheen City very nice to me and a family. It scorchio in a Spain but is nice here. We now fly home to Barcelona from a Raheen City, it a nice”. One of the local commuters could really see the benefit of a new trade route to Barcelona from Raheen City including new economic policies to encourage cross community partnerships, this is what Brendan Lawlor had to say “Eh laaaad?”. But the main benefit of this airport is the commuting time to New Ross. Some Raheen City people used to have to travel 15 minutes, usually by red Honda 50’s, to get to New Ross, whereas now “airplane” flights will take 1 hour. Everyone is encouraged to visit the brand new duty free area located behind Statias Shop and with four brand new car parking spaces available there is no reason to leave the car at home and travel by underground to the airport terminal.

Parish of Raheen - Ancestral Research, Family History, Laois, Offaly, Genealogy, Parish Histories (1428 words)
The present Parish of Raheen constituted a portion of the extensive parochial district of Clonenagh until the year 1820.
This place is within the present Parish of Raheen, and was far from being a convenient position for a priest having singly to discharge the duties of so vast a district.
The explanation may perhaps be that Doon was the property of the Baldwin family, who have always maintained a character for liberality and kindness, It is not unlikely therefore that the priest chose this place for his abode in order to be protected from persecution through their influence.
