The railroad worm is a larva or larviform adult of beetles of the genus Phrixothrix in family Phengodidae, characterized by their unique possession of two different colors of bioluminescence. Their body can glow green, while their head can glow red; this is due to two different kinds of luciferin and luciferase in their bodies. This is believed to be an adaptation to help confuse and frighten predators.

The Apple Maggot may also be called "railroad worm".

railroad tie - definition of railroad tie - Labor Law Talk Dictionary (345 words)
A railroad tie or sleeper is an oblong object used as a base for railroad tracks.
In recent years, railroad ties have also become very popular for gardening and landscaping, both in creating retaining walls and raised-bed gardens, and sometimes for building steps as well.
Unfortunately, due to presence of wood preservatives such as coal tar creosote and salts of heavy metals, railroad ties introduce an extra element of soil pollution into gardens and are avoided by many property owners.
