Rajahmundry (Telugu: రాజమండ్రి) is a city and a municipal corporation in East Godavari district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Located on the holy banks of River Godavari, it is the fifth largest city in Andhra Pradesh. Its original name being Raja Mahendri or Raja Mahendravaram, it was the first capital of many known Telugu Kingdoms. The Chalukya ruler Rajaraja Narendra ruled this city around 1022. Attractions The biggest attraction in Rajahmundry is River Godavari. The two bridges are the must see in a lifetime for every people of Andhra Pradesh. There are many beautiful ghats and parks on the river bank. Sir Arthur Cotton had great plans for Rajahmundry but he decided to build a dam in Dowleswaram due to its proximity to a hill that suited his purpose. The dam consisted of four divisions: Dowleswaram Division, Ryali Branch Division, Madduru division and Vijeswaram division. This was in all 900 yards (800 m) long and 9 feet (3 m) high. Rajahmundry has excellent schools like Sri Gowthami Public School, APPM Model High School, RCM High School, St Ann's English Medium School, Nivedita Kishore Vihar, TRIPS International School, B.V.M High School, SKVT, NNT, NKV and various other private and Government schools.
There are Three ICSE schools so far in Rajahmundry, First to mention Sri Satya Sai Gurukulam run by bhagavan Sri Satya Sai Baba and second is St.Anns Public School run by Christian Missionaries and other Future Kids School which is also having their head office in Hyderabad. A project called Vyass Information Center recently started in Rajahmundry is offering courses in Virtual Office Training and Microsoft Business Suite . These courses are one of its kind not yet being offered anywhere in India which enable people work literally from anywhere through internet connected computers. The same project is trying to promote concept virtual working which can change the way people are working and to shatter the myths that to work for foreign companies people need to migrate to urban areas or other countries. Now Vyass Information is an official franchisee of Indiacom Ltd who otherwise known as biggest directory services in India[8] which in turn is successful bidder of three upcoming BSNL directories and going to publish more than 1,50,000 copies for the first time in the history of East Godavari District. Transportation - Rajahmundry is well connected to all parts of the state. NH-5 passes by this place so it as an excellent road connectivity to all important places like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam etc.
- Rajahmundry is the biggest railway station for godavari districts and is situated on the madras-howrah railway line.
- Rajahmundry airport[10] which is located in Madhurapudi provides flights to important destinations like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Chennai. Plans are afoot to expand this airport and to build a new terminal building. The runway would be expanded to handle larger aircraft and night landing facilities would be added. Speculations are rife that plane services would be started to Banglore and Tirupathi as well.
