Rajendra kumar was the bollywod icon of the 60's and 70's.He was considered a golden boy for the producers in the sense that he was the actor who could recover the producer's money in a matter of few weeks.However the mid seventies proved devastful for Rajendra Kumar.Three of his films bobed at the box office and he was not getting the offers he used to receive earlier.It was the bleakest point in his career as he said in an interview .However the sun shine came when he was offered an interesting role in the film 'Saajan Bina Suhaagan' opposite Nutan.As the unexpected happened the film was a huge block buster of 1978.Rajendra Kumar had regained his 'Midas Touch'.His next films are the evidence for this.However in 1981 rajendra kumar stepped aside and made way to welcome his son Kumar Gaurav in the film 'Love Story'.The film was declared the block buster of 1981.But the sucess was shortlived as Kumar Gaurav's later films were a huge disappointment at the box office.Rajendra Kumar breathed his last in 1996.He was known to never have taken medicines in his entire life.

Born in Sialkot (now in Pakistan) on July 20, 1927, Rajendra Kumar belonged to the generation which learnt acting by trial and error.
After the 1947 Partition, the young Rajendra walked with his family, several miles to India and arrived in Bombay with a letter of introduction to lyricist Rajendra Kishen.
Rajendra Kumar himself moved over to play character roles and even acted in TV serials.
