He was elected as the Member of State Legislative Assembly first in 1972. He was then re-elected in 1977, 1982, 1985, 1993, 1998 and 2003. He remained Chief Parliamentary Secretary between the time period of 1980 to 1982. He was appointed as the Minister of State for Excise and Taxation from 1982 to 1985 and Industries Minister from 1993 to March, 1998.
