Ransomville is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in the Town of Porter in Niagara County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,488.


Ransomville is in the southeast corner of the town on the Youngstown-Lockport Road (Route 93). The Ransomville Speedway is located northwest of the village.


Geography

Ransomville is located at 43°14'13" North, 78°54'55" West (43.236955, -78.915327)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 16.1 km˛ (6.2 mi˛). 16.1 km˛ (6.2 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,488 people, 488 households, and 386 families residing in the hamlet. The population density is 92.7/km˛ (240.0/mi˛). There are 504 housing units at an average density of 31.4/km˛ (81.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the community is 97.04% White, 1.08% African American, 1.21% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 0.34% from two or more races. 0.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 488 households out of which 37.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.3% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.7% are non-families. 17.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.13.


In the community the population is spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.1 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $48,000, and the median income for a family is $53,239. Males have a median income of $30,833 versus $25,227 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $22,063. 2.8% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 3.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
