General Raoul Salan is one of four Generals who organized the 1961 Algiers Putsch. On January 16, 1957, while commander of the 10th military Area, and of the interarmy commander in Algiers, an attempt on Salan's life was made by bazooka. This resulted in the death of Colonel Rodier. The authors of the attack were Philippe Castille and Michel Fechoz; the conductor?, Rene Kovacs, was an algierian military doctor for French Algeria who wanted to replace Salan with General Cogny (reputedly more energetic). Raoul Albin Louis Salan (June 10, 1899 - July 3, 1984) was an officer in the French Army, and the fourth French commanding general in Vietnam during the First Indochina War.
Salan was one of four Generals who organized the 1961 Algiers Putsch operation, and then founded the Organisation armée secrète (OAS) terrorist group.
On January 16, 1957, while commander of the 10th military area, and of the interarmy commander in Algiers, Salan was the target of an assassination attempt using a bazooka, resulting in the death of a French Colonel.
