Raymond Darlington Felix (b. December 10, 1930; d. July 28, 1991) was an American professional basketball player. A 6’11” center from Long Island University, Felix was selected by the Baltimore Bullets with their first pick in the 1953 NBA Draft. He quickly became the NBA’s first dominant African-American center, winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 1954 after averaging 17.6 points and 13.3 rebounds. Felix was also the second African-American (after Don Barksdale) to be named an NBA All-Star. In his nine seasons in the league, which he spent with the Bullets, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers, Felix averaged 10.9 points and 8.9 rebounds, and he retired in 1962 with career totals of 6,974 points and 5,652 rebounds. Metroland Online - Art (870 words)
Felix has assembled a nice collection of medicine cabinets and altered them (he also has three installations that are not medicine cabinets: one with a toilet seat—kind of a cross between Marcel Duchamp and Farrell Bros. Plumbing—one with a sink and one with a mirror and vanity table).
Felix’s skill in creating these vignettes is well-honed, but his overall presentation is somewhat wan.
Purely in terms of style, the greatest strength of the show is Felix’s photography, which makes the most of the silveriness of the mirrors and works quite well as self-portraiture of the playing dress-up (or undress-up) variety.
