Raymond is a town located in Cumberland County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,299.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 119.8 km² (46.2 mi²). 86.1 km² (33.2 mi²) of it is land and 33.6 km² (13.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 28.09% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 4,299 people, 1,616 households, and 1,255 families residing in the town. The population density is 49.9/km² (129.3/mi²). There are 2,534 housing units at an average density of 29.4/km² (76.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.39% White, 0.40% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.60% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,616 households out of which 37.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.7% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.3% are non-families. 15.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 2.96.
