Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, often abbreviated to Rayo, is a Spanish Segunda División B football club based in Vallecas, a neighborhood in South East Madrid. Their home ground is the 15,500 seater Teresa Rivero stadium. One of the perennial yo-yo clubs of Spanish football, they spent many years during the 80's and 90's moving back and forth between the Primera División and the Segunda División A. Having appeared to consolidate their Primera División status with promotion in 1998-9, their most successful season came in 2000-2001, when they were UEFA Cup quarter-finalists, going out only to the eventual runners-up Deportivo Alavés. Since then, the club has fallen on hard times, with successive relegations from the Primera División in 2002-3 and the Segunda División A in 2003-4. Rayo Vallecanos badge Image by http://www. ...
