Encyclopedia > Rectilinear

Rectilinear: Characterized by straight lines, as opposed to curvilinear which is characterized by curved lines. In mathematics, the concept of a curve tries to capture our intuitive idea of a geometrical one-dimensional and continuous object. ...

When applied to photographical lenses: A rectilinear lens will yield images where straight features, such as the walls of buildings, will appear with straight lines, as opposed to being barrel-shaped. The vast majority of video and still cameras use lenses which produce rectilinear images, or nearly rectilinear images. A popular alternative type of lens is a fisheye lens which produces a distinctly curvilinear, wide-angled result. In photography, a fisheye lens is a wide-angle lens that projects deliberately distorted images. ...

Rectilinear Panorama Pro 1.2.1 - Photoshop plug-in review (614 words)
Working with Rectilinear over the course of several weeks, I was able to process dozens of photos with the plug-in.

All in all Rectilinear does its job very well but there are still a few ways in which it can be improved.
Rectilinear convex region (2283 words)
Since the optimized X-monotone region and optimized rectilinear region cannot be computed in polynomial time with respect to N and logM, we compute the region pretty close to the optimized region instead.
It is presumed that the difference between training and test confidences of rectilinear regions is smaller compared to that of X-monotone regions and that the test confidence of rectilinear regions is higher than that of rectangular regions.
The test confidence of rectilinear regions is the highest among the three classes of regions.
