One eye witness claims to have seen a triangular landing gear. The servicemen claimed that the object was clearly aware of their presence and backed off, forcing them to give chase. Skepticism Regarding the Rendlesham Incident

The Guardian investigated the incident and wrote an article that did much to discredit the accounts of UFO sightings at Rendlesham. A reporter asked local residents about the lights, and all of them indicated that the light originated from a nearby lighthouse. The coastline was at a slightly lower elevation than the surrounding area, and it created the impression of a light hovering slightly above the ground. Hence, logically speaking, if a UFO was spotted, the airmen should have seen another source of light (so that light was coming from the UFO and the lighthouse). The Guardian has used this logo on its masthead since its last major redesign in 1988. ... The Peggys Point lighthouse in Nova Scotia, Canada An aid for navigation and pilotage at sea, a lighthouse is a tower building or framework sending out light from a system of lamps and lenses or, in older times, from a fire. ...

Locals in the area also believed the alleged "landing marks" to simply be "rabbit diggings." Moreover, burn marks in the trees were actually axe cuts that indicated the trees were ready to be felled. To give further pause to accepting the alleged UFO sighting, a meteor was spotted in the exact same area at exactly the time the report drawn up about the incident was created, according to the Guardian's own investigation of the matter.
