René Préval (born January 17, 1943) was the President of Haiti from February 7, 1996 to February 7, 2001.


He was also prime minister from February 13 to October 11, 1991, but was replaced following the military coup of that year. He was an ally of Jean-Bertrand Aristide and a leader of the Lavalas Family party.
