Reptar was conceived by Louis W. Greenstein and Larry Loebell for their episode, "Incident in Aisle 7." [citation needed] Within the Rugrats cartoon itself, Reptar is a cartoon adored by the main characters, although not all of the parents share this view, in particular Tommy's mother. Occasionally Reptar is seen as a hero that helps save the world, and on other occasions he is seen as a villain, reflecting the different ways Godzilla is portrayed. Reptar first appears in Rugrats on the packaging of a cereal box. From then on he gains popularity as he becomes a more important part of the story line. In the world of the Rugrats, Reptar has excellent marketing presence; he appears within movies, ice skating shows, food packaging, TV shows, action figures, amusement parks and all kinds of merchandising, as a parody of children's merchandising in real life.
