Story

Retsu, who was born in Japan, is an apostate monk that enters the first World Warrior tournament to battle against strong opponents. He is a former Shorinji Kempo teacher who was expelled from his Kenpo house because of his personal struggles, constant strife, and for fighting too much. He is a good friend of Gouken, and short-term master of Dan Hibiki, whom he fought and soundly beat. A monk is a person who practices asceticism, the conditioning of mind and body in favor of the spirit. ... He let violence overcome the peace he should have preached to others. His techniques weren't forbidden in themselves, but making them full contact ones made them forbidden due to his strife which he couldn't seem to keep in check. With personal strife forbidden as well, he was excommunicated from Shorinji kenpo, the institution as well as the style. He's labeled in the Fanbook as a fallen fighting monk.


In the Udon comic book adaptation, Retsu was briefly seen sparring with a young Ryu.
