Rexford is a town located in Lincoln County, Montana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 151.


Geography

Rexford is located at 48°53'57" North, 115°10'7" West (48.899254, -115.168681)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²). 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Rexford was originally located on the Kootenai River, but with the damming of the river in the 1970s the original townsite was flooded and the town was moved to its current location approximately 10 miles west of Eureka on Montana Highway 37.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 151 people, 70 households, and 45 families residing in the town. The population density is 583.0/km² (1,447.3/mi²). There are 81 housing units at an average density of 312.7/km² (776.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 86.75% White, 0.00% African American, 7.95% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.65% from other races, and 2.65% from two or more races. 3.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 70 households out of which 18.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% are married couples living together, 11.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.3% are non-families. 31.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.59.


In the town the population is spread out with 17.9% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.9 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $22,604, and the median income for a family is $22,917. Males have a median income of $38,333 versus $20,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,355. 24.6% of the population and 16.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 54.3% of those under the age of 18 and 6.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
