Reynoldstown is a large residential neighborhood located between the Cabbagetown and Edgewood neighborhoods south of the CSX rail line. The plan of streets is a series of small grids that connect awkwardly to one another resulting in many "T intersections. Flat Shoals Avenue cuts diagonally across the district from northwest to southeast. The Atlanta and West Point Rail corridor divides the district east and west with the smallest and oldest section located to the west. Houses in this area include Queen Anne, gabled ell, saddlebag, and shotgun houses as well as later bungalows. Two ranks of fourteen double shotguns are located on Chester Avenue. The larger part of the neighborhood east of the Atlantic and West Point Rail corridor contains mostly Craftsman-style bungalows built between 1905 and 1930. Bungalows are the largest single house type in the neighborhood representing over thirty-six percent of all house types. Other house types include the gabled ell house, Colonial Revival-style Cape Cod house, minimal traditional houses, ranch houses, and small post- World War II apartment buildings. Houses throughout the district are set on small lots close to the street with uniform setbacks. Small corner churches and commercial buildings are located throughout the historic district: the Romanesque Revival style John F. Faith Grammar School ( 1924) and the modern Reynolds Elementary (1960). Buildings in Cabbagetown Cabbagetown is an historic neighbourhood located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. ...

After the Civil War, freed slaves formed communities at the outskirts of Atlanta, especially along rail lines where they worked as laborers or in the repair shops. In Reynoldstown, African Americans first settled on Wylie, Selman, and Kenyon streets because of their close proximity to the Central of Georgia roundhouse and yard. This area was known as Tin Cup Alley and later the Slide because of its muddy conditions. The area was called Reynoldstown as early as the 1870'and is believed to be named for Madison Reynolds, an ex-slave, grocer, and land owner. Between 1905 and 1930, the district east of Flat Shoals developed as a handful of small subdivisions that served as a white suburb of Atlanta. The economic and racial makeup of the neighborhood change dramatically after the World War II as the white middle class moved in large numbers from cities to suburbs. The Reynoldstown Historic District is significant in the area of social history and black ethnic heritage because it represent post -Civil War settlement patterns and the phenomena of white flight. In Atlanta, this is best seen in Reynoldstown, which in the span of fifteen years went from a predominately white neighborhood at the end of the war to almost exclusively African American in 1960. The Reynoldstown Historic District is significant in the area of architure because its houses represent styles and types popular in Georgia from the 1870s through 1960. The historic district is also significant in the area of community planning and development because its plan reflects its growth as a series of subdivisions.
