West joined Threshold in 1993 after being involved in two bands with Threshold guitarist Karl Groom. The first was Mercy Train who released their CD Presence through SI Music in 1993, with other band members including Peter Gee (Pendragon), Nick Harradence (Shadowland) and vocalist Richard Burge. The second was Shadowland, with West touring on keyboards alongside Groom, Harradence, Arena's Ian Salmon Clive Nolan as vocalist. After the release of Wounded Land West left Shadowland and Mercy Train eventually stopped in 1996. West went on to become co-producer of Threshold. alongside Karl Groom, working with him as engineer and co-producer at Thin Ice Studios in Surrey, England with various bands including Dragonforce, Intense, Shadowkeep and Power Quest.
