Richland Parish is a parish located in the state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Rayville and as of 2000, the population is 20,981.
Geography
The parish has a total area of 1,462 km2 (565 mi2). 1,446 km2 (558 mi2) of it is land and 16 km2 (6 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 1.07% water.

Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 20,981 people, 7,490 households, and 5,482 families residing in the parish. The population density is 15/km2 (38/mi2). There are 8,335 housing units at an average density of 6/km2 (15/mi2). The racial makeup of the parish is 60.96% White, 38.01% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 1.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 7,490 households out of which 34.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.20% are married couples living together, 18.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.80% are non-families. 24.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.14.
