Rick Riordan - From Mystery to Mythology. “I think kids want the same thing from a book that adults want-a fast paced story, characters worth caring about, humor, surprises, and mystery.” These were Rick’s entry words on one of his “The Lightning Thief” book talks. He is the author of the Percy Jackson, and the Tres Navarre series. In his early years of adulthood He was a teacher. Riordan taught English for 15 years. He also specialized in history and Greek mythology at middle-school level. His students thought his lessons were more humorous than other classes. Saint Mary’s Hall honored him with the schools first masters teachers award. Riordan started writing his Tres Navarre series with ‘’Big Red Tequila“. After showing great talent in writing He was inducted to the Texas Institute of Letters. He later continued his Tres Navarre books with “The Last King of Texas”. Rick then starts writing “The Lightning Thief” on request of his son. Riordan’s books became popular through his nationwide book talks. “The sea of Monsters” becomes a New York Times bestseller in 2004. Later, in 2005 the series is optioned to Twentieth Century Fox and will come out in 2008. “The Titans Curse” blows markets with its 2006 release. The Second-to-Last books in each series come out May 2008. Rick Riordan still lives in San Antonio, Texas. He lives there with his wife and 2 sons. He is thinking about returning to teaching.
