Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is a famous American circus, formed when the Ringling Brothers purchased the Barnum and Bailey circus in 1907.


Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus's separately and together grew to dominate live entertainment through their frequent purchases of many other American circuses.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus is an American circus that was formed from the merger of the Ringling Brothers Circus and the Barnum and Bailey Circus.
Their circus rapidly grew into one of the largest at the time and were soon able to move their circus by train, which enabled them to create the largest traveling show of their time.
The Ringlings purchased the Barnum and Bailey Circus in 1907 and ran the circuses separately until 1919.

In 1919,; the Barnum and Bailey Circus was merged with the Ringling Brothers Circus, which had purchased it in 1907 but ran it as a separate entity for twelve years.
Circus impresario Phineas T. Barnum (1810-1891) was a flamboyant showman who bought a five-story marble museum in New York City in 1842 and transformed it into the American Museum, a carnival of live freaks, theatrical tableaux, beauty contests, and other sensational attractions.
In 1907,; after Bailey's death, the Ringling Brothers bought the Barnum and Bailey Circus for $400,000 and ran it as a separate entity until 1919,; when their operations were combined into Ringling Brothers, and Barnum and Bailey, its present name.
