Fadejevs, the 50km Olympic silver medallist in Sydney, kept his attack for victory until the last 5 km having merely observed and controlled developments in the race from behind until that point.
This was his fourth victory in four outings at this annual walking meet in Rio Maior.
The IAAF Race Walking Challenge is composed with six events and takes place in three continents: one in America (Tijuana), one in Asia (Xanghai) and three in Europe (Rio Maior, La Coruña and San Giovanni), culminating in the World Championships in Paris (August).

Situated midway between Santarém and Óbidos, in a landscape of pine and eucalyptus forets, Rio Maior is an agricultural centre of very remote origin, with numerous prehistoric artefacts having been found in the surrounding areas.
Besides several 17th and 18th century manor houses, Rio Maior is worth visiting for its 16th-century parish church in the centre of town.
Rio Maior is a convenient base from which to explore many of the region's most important attractions, including the medieval walled village of Óbidos and the impressive churches at Alcobaça and Batlaha.
