Ettrick, one of the county's older unincorporated villages, is located on the north side of the Appomattox River, across the river from Petersburg and west of the City of Colonial Heights.
By the 1800s, Ettrick was cutting its teeth as a mill town, influenced by ease of access to Petersburg via Campbell's Bridge, which was built across the Appomattox in 1810.
"Ettrick is in a wonderful location," said Sterling Hawkins, a lifelong Ettrick resident and vice president of Ettrick on the Move, a community association formed 12 years ago to steer community improvements and beautification efforts and to plan community activities.
