River Oaks is a "very prestigious", 1,100 acre, neighborhood community located halfway between "Downtown & Uptown" in the geographic center of Houston, Texas. River Oaks boasts many residents from among wealthy and famous Texans, including doctors, ex-astronauts, oil royalty & real estate owners, international businessmen, corporate executives and mass tort lawyers. The average priced house over one million. The commute time to Downtown, Uptown or the vast medical center is about 15 minutes.


The community includes the River Oaks Country Club.


Many of the children in River Oaks are enrolled in Annunciation Orthodox, River Oaks Baptist School (http://www.robs.org), St. Johns School (http://www.sjs.org), or other private schools. The Houston Independent School District has River Oaks zoned to River Oaks Elementary School, Sidney Lanier Middle School, and Mirabeau B. Lamar High School.


While crimes are rare in this exclusive community, the Doris Angleton murder became well known.
