There were 4,080 housing units at an average density of 590.0/km² (1,528.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 52.58% White, 42.01% African American, 0.78% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.63% from other races, and 2.80% from two or more races.
