The River Spen is a river in the county of West Yorkshire, England. It rises north of Cleckheaton, runs through Liversedge and flows into the River Calder south of Dewsbury.

Spen Valley Motorcycle Club (422 words)
Founded in 1923 as the Heckmonwike and District MCC, the club changed its name a short time later to encompass the whole of the Spen Valley, and the rather grand sounding "Spen Valley Motorcycle and Light Car Club" emerged.
Few records remain from this era and even fewer riders.It is known that Spen Valley had its share of local heroes.
The forties and fifties were, of course, speedways golden years and a number of well known riders were Spen Valley members, Eddie Rigg being amongst them.

At the time of the Biltons residence, Healds Hall was the largest house in Spen Valley, where they did much entertaining of the gentry of Spen Valley and the surrounding districts, gaining a reputation of a” happy and lively” home.
The lords of the manor (the Nevilles of Liversedge Hall) found their wealth diminishing and a pact was made by the heads of the two families for a marriage.
