Riverbank is a city located in Stanislaus County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 15,826. Incorporated on August 23, 1922, Riverbank was original known as Burneyville. Riverbank's official slogan is "The City of Action"

Geography

Location of Riverbank, California

Riverbank is located at 37°43'53" North, 120°56'37" West (37.731272, -120.943653)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.3 km˛ (3.2 mi˛). 8.1 km˛ (3.1 mi˛) of it is land and 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 2.51% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 15,826 people, 4,544 households, and 3,821 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,964.8/km˛ (5,091.7/mi˛). There are 4,698 housing units at an average density of 583.3/km˛ (1,511.5/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 66.85% White, 1.53% African American, 1.43% Native American, 1.31% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 24.03% from other races, and 4.72% from two or more races. 45.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 4,544 households out of which 49.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.0% are married couples living together, 13.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.9% are non-families. 11.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.45 and the average family size is 3.73.


In the city the population is spread out with 33.9% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 18.2% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.1 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $44,668, and the median income for a family is $47,411. Males have a median income of $36,370 versus $29,012 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,972. 12.3% of the population and 9.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.8% of those under the age of 18 and 4.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.


Events

Each year during the month of October, the annual Cheese and Wine Expo is held. The two-day event features wine and cheese tasting, carnival games, and arts and crafts booths. The Expo draws thousands of people each year from nearby towns.


Climate

Winter temperatures range from the mid 40s to the high 60s, summer temperatures from the 50s to the 90s.
