Riverside is a city located in Walker County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 425.

Riverside is located at 30°50'49" North, 95°23'53" West (30.847070, -95.398092)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.3 km² (2.1 mi²). 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.25% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 425 people, 168 households, and 116 families residing in the city. The population density is 86.8/km² (224.6/mi²). There are 269 housing units at an average density of 55.0/km² (142.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 74.59% White, 20.71% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.29% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 7.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 168 households out of which 25.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% are married couples living together, 16.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 23.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.00.


In the city the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 21.4% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.0 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $24,750, and the median income for a family is $26,875. Males have a median income of $26,591 versus $24,375 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,697. 32.2% of the population and 25.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 50.4% of those under the age of 18 and 31.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
