Robins Air Force Base (Robins AFB) is a base of the United States Air Force located in Houston County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the base had a total population of 3,949.


Geography

Robins AFB is located at 32°36'25" North, 83°35'4" West (32.606975, -83.584572)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the base has a total area of 7.1 km˛ (2.7 mi˛). 7.0 km˛ (2.7 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.73% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,949 people, 696 households, and 682 families residing in the base. The population density is 562.6/km˛ (1,458.3/mi˛). There are 791 housing units at an average density of 112.7/km˛ (292.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the base is 57.53% White, 32.19% Black or African American, 0.58% Native American, 2.68% Asian, 0.43% Pacific Islander, 2.43% from other races, and 4.15% from two or more races. 4.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 696 households out of which 82.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 88.6% are married couples living together, 5.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 2.0% are non-families. 2.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.54 and the average family size is 3.57.


In the base the population is spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 36.0% from 18 to 24, 34.5% from 25 to 44, 1.6% from 45 to 64, and 0.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 22 years. For every 100 females there are 131.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 144.6 males.


The median income for a household in the base is $37,420, and the median income for a family is $37,656. Males have a median income of $21,929 versus $14,820 for females. The per capita income for the base is $12,506. 4.3% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.6% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Robins AFB is situated on 8,800 acres of upper coastal plain, of which 2,250 acres are natural wetlands and 600 acres are mixed hardwood and pine forests.
